Scented Mayweed – Matricaria chamomilla

Scented Mayweed (Matricaria chamomilla) is also known as Wild Chamomile or German Chamomile and is a member of the Daisy family. Scented Mayweed can reach a height of 60 cm and produces a strong herb-like fragrance.

The flower is typicaly 1 – 2.5 cm surrounded by bracts. The flower is usually white with tongue like petals curving downards. The oil from this plant is known to have antiseptic properties and this makes it useful for treating wounds, respiratory problems and colds and as a general medicine for stomach and digestive problems.

Flowering Time: June to October
Preferred Conditions: This plant will commonly be found on all types of wasteland and will thrive on lighter soil but will still grow in heavy clays.
