Cornflower – Centaurea cyanus

Cornflower (Centaurea cyanus) is a member of the Daisy Family (Asteraceae). This flower is a mixture of single and semi-double blooms which can be a range of blues, from a light / white blue to a dark / navy blue , and also bi colour – blue and white.

Cornflower can reach a height of 45 cm and spread as much as 30cm. It is a tall, branched stem that is covered in hairs, with grey / green leaves. This plants most distinctive feature is the bright blue flowers, which are made up of many smaller flowers. These stunning flowers appear from June to August and then are followed by the seeds which look very similar to that of a grain of cereal, with short bristles.

Preferred Conditions: Grows wel from spring and prefers clay like soil.
